Behaviour Consultation
The behaviour consultation service is designed to help parents or carers learn strategies to deal with problem behaviours with children, teenagers and adults.
Behaviour support is about creating individualised strategies for parents that are responsive to their child or teenager’s needs, in a way that reduces and eliminates the deterioration of relationships within families.
Behaviour support focuses on evidence-based strategies and person-centred supports that address the needs of the child or teenager. It analyses the underlying causes of the behaviours of concern, while safeguarding dignity and quality of life of all concerned.
What is the difference between Behaviour Support and Therapy?
Behaviour Support is aimed at helping the support system (carers, or teachers) to identify the function of specific behaviours and to provide a consistent approach to behaviour change in a written Behaviour Support Plan.
Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) is not just about managing the problem behaviour, it’s about learning to communicate, developing skills needed to be independent and to learn self-control or emotional management.
Positive Behaviour Support aims to reduce challenging behaviour by helping the young person to develop the skills they need, so they no longer rely on using problem behaviours to achieve a desired outcome.
What is the process?
At JRTS, our behaviour practitioner works collaboratively with other professionals, including (but not limited to) schoolteachers, paediatricians, psychologists and parents plus other family members. The intervention will include:
An analysis of the behaviour.
Once data is collected, a simple plan and reactive strategy will be created for immediate trial to target behaviours of concern.
Two sessions of comprehensive training to all parents and carers involved with the individual to ensure strategies are consistent, and can be utilised easily and effectively across all environments.
Support to collate resources.
A final session will be offered 3 months later to re-evaluate strategies and offer additional support as required.
Cost: $2500 plus GST and additional sessions are $250 plus GST per hour.
